The impact of climate and nitrogen on carbon dynamics in forests. The focus of this programme is to better understand the biogeochemical cycles of carbon and nitrogen of forests. This knowledge is needed to design backbones of sustainable, silvicultural systems.
The challenge is to integrate knowledge of key processes in the forest ecosystem to understand and describe the function of the whole system and to do this in a way that is meaningful and possible to use for future scientific work and for development of new forest management systems.
