Forest genetics and next generation of forest trees. The challenge is to meet the need to create a critical mass of top researchers in forest genetics in order to explore possibilities with modern tools and genetic knowledge from the molecular level to e population level for gaining a deeper understanding of the complex genomes and create a novel platform for plant breeding for the future.
We need a deeper knowledge of genomics, and the genetic background to growth and development of trees to be able to understand risks and how trees adapt to a constant change in the a-biotic and biotic environments.
The challenges also involve new knowledge for improvement of fiber quality, and to estimate the possibilities of extracting chemicals from trees for future use in bio-refineries.
