Theme 3.
Sustainable and adaptive forest management. The ecologically and socially acceptable and sustainable use of forests must be built on new forms of management systems and the challenge is to design new and alternative systems that can fulfill the criteria of sustainable forest management in a future with a changing climate.
The theme has one focal point on regeneration of trees, and systems for mass propagation of trees with somatic embryogenesis. The other focal points are production systems especially based on broadleaf trees, plantation of rapidly growing trees and continous forest cover all related to new sustainable and adaptive forest management systems.
