Research School

The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), its partner Umeå University (UmU) and the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden (SkogForsk) jointly present a research school

Trees and Crops for the Future (TC4F) within the research program involving  four research themes dealing with fundamentals of forest and other plant materials.

The research program targets the efficient use of renewable plant resources in an environmentally friendly way by creating innovative high-value products that will substitute non-renewable sources.

“Fundamentals of forest” aim to understand the molecular-genetic pathways affecting metabolic processes, identify key regulators in tree development and regulate management of forest ecosystem by creating next generation forest trees.

“Other plant materials” deal with non-food crops suitable for development of crop products with high-value such as plant oils for industrial use, as well as use of crop by-proteins and starches for production of bio-based materials.

Aim
The overall aim of the research school is provide a doctoral education of the highest scientific quality within the context of Forest and Other plant material research areas and practices.

The research school TC4F also aims to provide a broad and balanced curriculum which is in line with national and regional policies ensuring continuity and integration of the four research topics of the research school.

By training doctoral students in scientific networking research school TC4F aims to increase the use of multi-techniques- and multi-discipline-approaches and show the students the potential and possibilities of multidisciplinarity in solving their scientific questions
